چکیده
Mapping of coralligenous banks was carried out along the continental shelf northern and western margin Sardinia Island (Italy, Mediterranean Sea) in context European Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD, 2008/56/EC). Coralligenous are bioconstructions produced by calcareous coralline algae. Seafloor mapping through multibeam echosounder surveys video transects, using a Remote Operating Vehicles (ROV), areas not formerly explored. A high-resolution digital model seabed (DTM) obtained from data. total surface 436 km2 sparse patches mapped depth range ~40-160 m. final map habitat distributions (scale 1:250,000) produced. The base-map is formed shaded DTM seabed. Other features include edge distribution rocky

New and rare sponges from the deep shelf of the Alboran Island (Alboran Sea, Western Mediterranean).
The sponge fauna from the deep shelf (70 to 200 m) of the Alboran Island (Alboran Sea, Western Mediterranean) was investigated using a combination of ROV surveys and collecting devices in the frame of the EC LIFE+ INDEMARES Grant aimed to designate marine areas of the Nature 2000 Network within Spanish territorial waters. From ROV surveys and 351 examined specimens, a total of 87 sponge species...
متن کاملRole of Recruitment Processes in Structuring Coralligenous Benthic Assemblages in the Northern Adriatic Continental Shelf
Coralligenous biogenic reefs are among the most diverse marine habitats in the Mediterranean Sea. The northern Adriatic mesophotic coralligenous outcrops host very rich and diverse epibenthic assemblages. Several studies quantified the low temporal variability and high spatial heterogeneity of these habitats, while processes driving structuring and differentiation are still poorly understood. T...
متن کاملInteraction between loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and marine litter in Sardinia (Western Mediterranean Sea).
Anthropogenic debris in the environment affects many species that accidentally ingest it. The aim of this study is to evaluate the quantity and composition of marine litter ingested by loggerheads in Sardinia, thus supplying for the lack of data in the existing literature for this area. Seventeen of the 121 (14.04%) monitored turtles presented debris in their digestive tracts. Litter in faecal ...
متن کاملReport of a Physical Oceanography Research Project over the Southern Continental Shelf of the Caspian Sea
Abstract The study presents monthly variations of seawater properties, monitoring water column stability and stratification over the southern shelf of the Caspian Sea which depends on collecting data. Field measurements were carried out during 13 cruises along the southern boundary of the sea. Spatial and temporal distributions of temperature, salinity and density were investigated. Monthl...
متن کاملGeochemical evaluation of sea surface sediments along the continental shelf, south east coast of India
Present study consists geochemical variations and spatial distribution of trace elements (Fe, Mn, Cr, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn) of the ocean floor sediments collected along the continental shelf off East coast Tamil Nadu (Chennai to Velanganni) during the 2009 southwest monsoon period. Results indicate sand dominance with abundant calcareous debris and shell fragments. Normalisation of trace metal...
